Our Mission and Curriculum
Our mission is to provide children with an alternative approach to religious and spiritual education. Children receive guiding principles to help them navigate the world as caring, loving individuals.
At the UFF, every lesson in the Children’s RE Program ties to one of our Unitarian Universalist (UU) principles. Our curriculum reinforces the value of the individual, the importance of all human beings, equality for all, respect for the world around us, and the continuous search for truth and meaning. We blend teachings from all world religions and cultures to bring diversity to our program. There is no singular dogma in UUism. Rather, we encourage our children to think for themselves about big questions and give them the tools they need to explore their own beliefs. We are happy to welcome children of all ages, but our lessons are designed for ages five through ten.
Children begin with the adults downstairs in our Sanctuary. After a brief story or conversation with the Service Leader, children head upstairs to the Children’s Room with the RE Educator for the remainder of the service hour.

Happy, Confident Me
An age-appropriate exploration of what it means to be happy and confident, and why some people need to change things in order to feel that way. Hosted in recognition of International Day of Transgender Visibility. (Principle Three)
Unit: Our Seasons
A month-long investigation of the seasons of our lives. Children learn what the different seasons of life are, how Unitarians celebrate key life events, how to process grief, and how to explore their own beliefs surrounding life after death. (Principles One – Seven)
Black History Month
Children studied Viola Desmond and Rosa Parks while having a greater discussion about the importance of racial diversity in our world. (Principles One and Eight)
A Note from the Chair
Hello! My name is Aidan, and I am the Chair of the Children’s Committee and the main RE Educator. The Children’s Committee is a group of UFF members dedicated to serving the youth in our community, and I am proud to serve as its chair. I find great value and honour in working with our children.
Outside of the UFF, I am a UNB alumni from the faculties of Arts and Education. I am an early-service French Immersion educator with a passion for bilingualism and inclusion in my classrooms. I am a teacher, but most importantly I am a fiancé, a son, and a friend.
