On December 14, at 10:30 a.m., Myron Hedderson will be addressing the topic of “Effective Giving” at the Unitarian Fellowship of Fredericton. All are invited to join us at 874 York Street or on Zoom.
In honour of December, which we all know as the month of charity appeals, Myron will present the research he has done on the most cost-effective charities. This doesn’t mean “lowest percentage of money spent on administrative costs”, it means “most good” done per dollar, for various definitions of ‘good”’. Building on his earlier presentation on Effective Altruism, this will be a deep dive into Givewell’s recommendations, as well as other sources of information on effective philanthropic opportunities.
Myron is a compelling speaker who examines social issues, including technology and the environment, under an ethical and moral lens. He is a long-time board and committee member at the UFF. We appreciate the talents and ideas of our lay leaders, whose contributions serve to build the community we wish to belong to.
This week, the children will be exploring “A World of Cookies for Santa.” They will read A World of Cookies for Santa, a book that shares how children around the world leave cookies for Santa. Children will pick their favourite international recipe and make their own batch out of paper. (Principle Eight) Email: childrens_re@uff.ca.
After the Sunday Service, which lasts about an hour, we would love to welcome you for coffee, conversation, and yes, cookies!
