The One Most Fragile Organ of the Body

June 28th “The One Most Fragile Organ of the Body”: A Patient’s Neurosurgical Experience at the Montreal Neurosurgical Institute.

Service Leader: Heather Lunergan

Original Text by Dr. Delia Gavrus

Tech Support: Myron Hedderson

Through video and slides, Heather will re-read a lecture from June 6 at Dalhouse. This lecture was written and presented by Dr. Delia Garvus, Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba, and is part of an upcoming authorized biography of Dr. Wilder Penfield, who treated Heather’s father, Howard Berry. This talk gives a scientific and sociological look into the ‘lived experience’ of a man who developed epilepsy as a child, later underwent radical brain surgery, and went on to live a ‘normal’ life. The story is told from the perspective of medical records, journals kept by the patient, and family photographs, as well as personal notes, and stories from Howard’s children, Heather, Bruce, and Cheryl.

Children’s and Youth Program for June 28: The Eight Principles

We’ve been talking about principles all year — what do they actually mean to you? Children will draw what they think about when they think of different principles and demonstrate how we incorporate our principles into everyday life. (All Principles)

Please note that the Annual General Meeting of the Members of the Unitarian Fellowship of Fredericton will follow the service. It will begin at 12 noon, to give you time for coffee and cookies (pick-up in the kitchen) and brief conversations in the library or the cozy seating area in the sanctuary.
