Renowned Neurologist Wilder Penfield was the founder and first director of the Montreal Neurological Institute. He developed the Montreal procedure for the surgical treatment of epilepsy in the 1930s.
Heather’s father was one of the first patients to be treated by Penfield, and the story of how Howard Berry developed epilepsy as a boy, his treatment in Montreal, and his subsequent art training, career, and family life were unique. For reference, remember the Heritage Canada moment about a woman saying Dr. Penfield, I smell burnt toast.
The topic for children and youth on January 11 is: Families. Children will draw pictures of their families (as they define the term) and learn about how other families look. (Principles Three and Six)
